Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation

Liability Coverage & Risk Management Services for Counties

The Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation (County Mutual) provides liability insurance coverage to Wisconsin's counties. The County Mutual is owned by its 52 member counties and has the financial security and comprehensive programs and services in place that protect counties, while saving scarce taxpayer dollars.

The company also has a strategic risk management program that:

  • Actively controls losses.
  • Employs a strong, no-nuisance claims philosophy.
  • Aggressively manages litigation.
  • Offers county-specific coverage.

The county liability program is the cornerstone of the County Mutual's programs. The County Mutual drafted its own policy in order to provide its owners the total scope of liability protection needed by counties. Under the policy, the County Mutual provides the following coverage:

  • General liability.
  • Personal injury liability, including coverage for discrimination, civil rights violations and employment related actions.
  • Automobile liability, including uninsured motorist coverage.
  • Law enforcement liability, including coverage for assault and battery and intentional acts.
  • Public officials’ errors and omissions liability, including directors and offices liability for health care institutions, county-owned airports and county offices and representing the county on other boards and commissions.

In addition, County Mutual has created an owner direct insurance program (ODIP) designed to save counties money on building projects.

County Mutual provides all coverages in one policy, which eliminates potential coverage gaps and reduces the potential for claims disallowance.
