Job Summary
The LTE Zoo Volunteer Coordinator supervises volunteers and provides direction, coordination, and consultation for volunteer functions within the Zoo to: Strengthen public or private programs and involve a community of supporters as described in the duties outlined below. Coordinator is responsible for volunteer recruitment, training, and evaluation. The Coordinator will work with zoo teams on planning and implementing projects and special events. Serve as a liaison between volunteers and zoo staff.

Essential Duties
Assist with recruiting and training volunteers for zoo events and daily operations.

Manage online volunteer sign-up sheets and create/update training materials as needed.

Maintain volunteer department policies, procedures, records to comply with Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) accreditation standards.

Perform background checks and interviews, process all paperwork and records related to volunteer recruitment and retention.

Assist with recruitment and coordination of zoo internship programs.

Conduct volunteer orientations and trainings.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of volunteer services and program.

Serve as a liaison between volunteers and zoo staff members.

Utilize social media, face-to-face communication, telephone, and email to maintain communication with volunteers.

Ensure there is appropriate support for volunteers.

Work with Education & Volunteer Programs Coordinator to coordinate volunteer meetings and projects, ensure appropriate volunteer coverage is maintained for zoo daily operations, events, and event preparations.

Edit and publish Zoo Volunteer monthly and annual reports; write and distribute press releases focusing on volunteer-driven activities and events.

Performs related functions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required
Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent. One year of related experience working in a volunteer program preferred. Knowledge of volunteer management principles and evaluation techniques; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and access to transportation adequate to fulfill position responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge and experience in volunteer management.

Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate events.

Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer and the required software.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, zoo staff, members of the public, and zoo visitors/customers.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to work cohesively in a team environment.

Ability to work the required hours of the position.
