Job Summary
Performs specialized work in conducting transactions with the public requiring knowledge and understanding of Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs/Veterans Administration (WDVA/VA) laws, regulations and/or departmental policies and procedures.
Essential Duties
Assures the proper recording and filing of all documents authorized by law and/or according to policies and procedures.

Assists the public by providing information and answers inquiries of a complex nature.

Gathers information on a variety of subjects and compiles financial, statistical and legal reports.

Analyzes and interprets information contained in a variety of documents, forms, reports, etc. for processing.

Obtain information from the public for the completion of forms, documents, records, etc.

Refers inquiries to proper department or official.

Independently complies data and prepares various reports and application for State and Federal VA benefits and programs.

Types reports, correspondence, vouchers and statistical data from written and printed material.

Answers questions regarding departmental regulations and policies.

Performs filing and searching.

Makes detailed arithmetic calculations for processing of information.

Performs related functions as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma and one year experience in a Veterans Office or one year in a similar position; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
WDVA or NACVSO accreditation – must maintain annually
TRIP training thru VARO and other related
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of general office procedures.

Knowledge of business English, spelling and grammar.

Knowledge of simple bookkeeping.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Specialized knowledge in WDVA and VA benefits/programs.

Ability to make fairly complex arithmetic calculations.

Ability to interview and obtain information from the public.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
