Job Summary
The Sheriff delegates the duty to provide the transportation of inmates/prisoners to Special Deputy-Transport Agents (the “Agents”), which are deputized to go armed and to use force, but not to make arrests. Under the general supervision of the Support Services Captain and the Transport Agent Supervisor, the Agents will attend on the Circuit Courts of Brown County by conveying inmates/prisoners to appropriate facilities/locations while providing for their care, conduct, control and safety during their time in the Agents’ custody. The Agents will also be required to complete other inmate/prisoner transportation related duties as assigned.

This is an LTE position which means there are no benefits given with the role.
Essential Duties
The following job duties listed are examples of those required by the Agents, but are not considered to be a complete list of duties to be performed:

Transport inmates/prisoners in a safe/secure/professional manner according to policy and procedure
Inspect and maintain transport vehicles to ensure mechanical safety
Conduct searches of transport vehicles and all areas that will be occupied the persons/prisoners prior to and after all transports
Conduct searches of all persons/prisoners prior to them entering the transport vehicle
Properly restrain persons/prisoners with the correct restraint system for that individual’s needs
Be familiar with and able to operate all types of restraint systems used
Prepare/complete all necessary paperwork related to the transport
Ensure correct paperwork is present for each inmate/prisoner on the transport
Be able to plan for the timing and routing of each transport, to include any special security precautions that would warrant emergency escape procedures
Be able to identify and react to emerging dangerous conditions including security threats and weather conditions
Communicate with other facilities in reference to arrivals and departures or inmates/prisoners
Conduct themselves in a professional manner when communicating in person and on the phone with other agencies/jurisdictions
Successfully complete all required training as required by law, and as may be required by the Sheriff

Minimum Qualifications Required
Education and Experience

Bachelor or Associate Degree from an accredited university or college in a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications

Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
Ability to obtain CPR Certification
Able to obtain CCW in the state of Wisconsin before beginning employment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely
Ability to train on security functions and use of force options
Ability to effectively communicate with court staff, sworn deputies and the general public
Ability to prepare clear, accurate written reports
Ability to follow written and oral instructions
Ability to establish and maintain relationships with the public and other governmental agency personnel
Ability to complete required training
Ability to use a computer, software and related hardware
Ability to work the required hours of the position
Ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record
Ability to react in an emergency and make sound, rational decisions demonstrating good judgement
Ability to travel out of state
Knowledge of department policies and procedures
Knowledge and ability to perform first aid
Knowledge, skill and ability to safely handle department firearms
