POSITION SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to provide extraordinary service to our customers and fellow library staff. The focus of this position is to support and aid in purchasing and processing of materials selected by our library services team. This position contributes innovative and progressive solutions to provide increasingly better customer service. The work is performed under the direction of the Library Support Services Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting, or similar field of study, with two years of experience in a public library or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Monitors the library’s book budget.
Sends orders for library materials to vendors via electronic orders.
Maintains a detailed file of titles ordered.
Processes, receives and invoices the orders.
Using the library software system, adjust the status of materials.
Resolves problems with the vendors such as incorrect or missing titles.
Investigates and work with vendors to improve processes.
Creates various reports using the library’s software.
Coordinates payments to vendors with the Business Specialist.
Assists customers in identifying, locating, checking out materials, collecting fines and related charges.
Searches library catalog in answer to customers’ questions and place holds for customers as requested.
Issues library cards to customers.
Interprets, explain, and enforce library policies and procedures to public as appropriate.
May be asked to unpack materials coming into the library.
Adds materials to the catalog.
Deletes materials from the catalog.
Assists in developing and implementing services, policies and procedures.
Carries out policies, procedures, and practices of the Marathon County Public Library.
Balances daily receipts from fines and fees; maintains and reconciles cash account.
Attends workshops and meetings; read book reviews, Library Journals and professional literature and periodicals to maintain current professional knowledge and abilities.
Anticipates and understands customer needs and preferences for information which build and drive the selection of resources and services.
May be asked to create various reports using the library’s software.
May be asked to assist customers in identifying and finding materials appropriate for their requirements and their abilities.
May be asked to participate in customer service planning and promotion, can articulate the direction clearly and enlists others to jointly work to achieve it.
May be asked to oversee customers and their use of the library maintaining the appropriate atmosphere and discipline depending upon the area and the customers being served.
May be asked to receive, research and respond to customer’s questions. Analyzes and anticipates customer’s needs, determines appropriate resources and provides information for all ages.
May be asked to provide technical support and instruction to library staff and the public.
May be asked to assist customers with the use of personal electronic devices of any type.
Develops and recommends policies and procedures to improve operations and efficiencies.
Takes responsibility for managing the development of one’s own career, including a commitment to lifelong learning and periodic retooling of personal skills set.
Acts as a resource for the Library Support Services Manager.
Encourages and operates in a results oriented culture.
Participates in special projects or on short term committees.
Develops and maintains positive relationships with staff and customers.
Actively seeks opportunities to promote the library, implement and evaluate outcomes.
Answers telephone calls, takes and relays messages.
Attends meetings.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance; works extra hours as required.

COMPENSATION:
Starting salary: $17.66 per hour.
