Highway Mechanic

The Iowa County Highway Department is seeking applicants for a Mechanic position. General job duties may include assisting in the plowing/winging of snow; inspect and perform schedule preventative maintenance and other duties assigned by management. Starting pay is $28.58/hr. and a generous, comprehensive benefit package is provided.

Applicant requirements: at least 18 years of age, high school diploma/GED, 2-5 years of a combination of technical/vocational school degree and on the job training mechanical repairs, and a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Classes A, B, C and D, with no air brakes restrictions, within six months of hire date. Candidates must have recent demonstrated proficiency inspecting and performing scheduled preventative maintenance and emergency repair work on a variety of equipment including, but not limited to trucks, cars, earthmoving equipment, and road paving related equipment. Pre-employment drug & alcohol testing required. Successful candidate must have their own tools.

Applicants must be available on nights, holidays, and weekends during snow or other emergencies. Must be able to work 4 ten hour days/week schedule during the summer season (May thru September) when implemented.
