Position Description: The GIS Planner provides maps and conducts spatial analysis to support our environmental, infrastructure, and economic development planning projects. They develop and analyze data trends to inform resiliency planning to prepare communities for the challenges and opportunities of the next 10-20 years. GIS work varies between visionary and exploratory climate scenario mapping and technical mapping of municipal infrastructure. The GIS Planner will support colleagues and also have self-directed projects that require independence, critical thinking, creativity, and project management.

In your first year, you’ll work with our Community Resiliency Planner to develop maps and participate in public outreach for a county Hazard Mitigation Plan. Working with our GIS Coordinator and Executive Director, you’ll create climate risk and opportunity maps for our Comprehensive Economic Development Plan. Lastly, you’ll develop maps, conduct data analysis, and support public engagement for a city Bike and Pedestrian plan. Future work includes analysis climate change impacts to the region, working to regionalize local infrastructure mapping efforts, and assisting in additional plan writing as needed.
