Job Title: Maintenance Assistant
Pay Range: $19.99 – 21.14 per hour, based on experience; plus, longevity, if applicable
Location: Lafayette County Courthouse
Reports to: Facilities Operations Manager
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Hours of Work: Regular Full-Time/40 hours per week; Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work depending on storm seasons. Expected to be called in for snow removal unless prior excused.
Position Purpose:
The primary purpose of this Maintenance Assistant position is to provide a safe, clean and pleasing environment for visitors and staff according to current applicable federal, state, county, and facility regulations, policies, and procedures of Lafayette County.
Qualifications:
• High School diploma
• Experience or ability to learn plant maintenance, building trades, and/or equipment maintenance
• Fluently read and write English and follow verbal and written job duties and schedules
• Must have valid driver’s license
Essential Functions:
• General building maintenance and repairs, including minor structural adaptations, painting, and general electrical checks, changing ballast – 4’ and 8’ bulbs
• General custodial services including waxing floors, dusting Courthouse common areas and courtroom, vacuuming common areas and offices depending on need, completely cleaning restrooms and emptying trash and recyclables
• General carpentry skills
• Knowledge of the operation of boilers and maintenance of proper steam pressure
• Knowledge of the preventative and routine maintenance of air conditioning equipment
• Routine maintenance and general repair of plumbing
• Maintenance of lawn and facility grounds, including mowing, trimming and snow removal; and the proper use of necessary power equipment
• County K building general property maintenance
• Fish pond general cleaning and painting
• Deliver mail to the post office and sort mail/operate postage machine in the Courthouse
• Seasonal decorating for Christmas holidays
• Climbing ladder to bell tower of courthouse to change light bulbs
• Fill county vehicles with gas and check oil and fluids
• Properly care for facility equipment
• Observe waste disposal and recycling procedures
• Basic knowledge of OSHA standards, building code regulations, and fire and safety codes, and the ability to follow them
• Perform all duties according to federal and state regulations, as well as the County Employee Handbook, facility policies and procedures and directives of the Facilities Operations Manager
• Work scheduled shifts while consistently demonstrating dependability and punctuality, following facility policies and procedures
• Be flexible, receptive and adaptive to change
• Follow safety guidelines according to federal, state, county, and facility regulations, policies and procedures
• Report any security issues and unsafe conditions/equipment to the Facilities Operations Manager
• Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner
Physical / Mental Requirements:
• Lift up to 50 pounds or as required
• Transfer carts with supplies and equipment through doorways and into close fitting areas
• Physically and mentally able to perform job duties as assigned
• Ability to wear gloves and other protective equipment
• Stand / walk up to 95% of each 8.0 hour day to complete assigned duties
• Hear and distinguish normal sounds with background noise ranging from conversational levels to high pitched sounding alarms
