Chief Deputy County Treasurer
Under the general direction of County Treasurer, provides assistance to County Treasurer regarding collection of county moneys and maintenance of county accounting records and accounts. Files all necessary State reports for Treasurers Department. Assumes responsibility of office in absence of County Treasurer and supervision of Department staff.
Education and Experience:
Associate Degree in Accounting or related field and three (3) years of related experience or high school diploma or GED equivalent, including/supplemented courses in accounting/bookkeeping principles and seven (7) years of related experience. Preference given for experience in taxation and municipal record keeping, real estate transactions, and assessment processes. Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
•Considerable knowledge of modern office management principles/practices, commercial bookkeeping, and fund accounting.
•Ability to perform variety of complex clerical and financial tasks.
•Ability to plan, organize, and supervise other’s work.
•Ability to understand and effectively give and carry out instructions.
•Ability to accurately use calculator and perform complex mathematical calculations.
•Ability to analyze and creatively identify inequity in general ledger accounts, working directly with the Finance Department and other County Departments.
•Considerable knowledge of County tax cycle and state statutes that govern these processes.
•Strong knowledge and understanding of the application and interpretation of state statutes in regards to foreclosure of tax liens as well as other applicable statutes guiding processes and deadlines for the County Treasurers Department.
•Ability to accurately meet many monthly and annual deadlines.
•Ability to read and understand legal descriptions, in relationship to assessments and taxation.
•Strong working knowledge of personal computer operation. Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook required.
•Working knowledge of Tyler Munis Financial program and LandNav Tax Program.
•Some knowledge of bankruptcy proceedings.
•Ability to handle stressful individuals and situations with tact, confidentiality, and apathy.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective public and working relationships.
•Ability to maintain accurate/complete records and prepare clear/detailed reports.
•Ability to recognize confidential information versus public records.
Starting Wage Range
$21.37/hr. – $27.79/hr.
