Job Summary
Under the direction of the Clinical Director and Behavioral Health Manager, this position provides appropriate mental health services to individuals under the Community Programs Division within the Outpatient Clinic setting. This includes, but is not limited to mental health assessments, prescribing medications, diagnosis and treatment, client education, and the development and implementation of treatment plans. Provides consultation to a variety of disciplines at the Brown County Community Treatment Center. Educates to community members on mental health matters as needed.

Essential Duties
Provides psychiatric consultation, evaluation, and treatment as required. Formulates initial diagnosis.

Assists in the development and implementation of treatment plans.

Directs, supervises, and consults with other professionals as needed for the coordination and delivery of client-centered care.

Monitors for change in clients with acute or chronic mental health problems.

Discharges clients and/or assists in the closing of cases on clients under his/her care in a timely manner.

Provides expert testimony in court cases, if required.

Assists the Clinical Director and Behavioral Health Manager in the development, evaluation, and implementation of clinical programs.

Participates in the organization, meetings, and duties as required.

Maintains responsibility for safe client care through appropriate planning, implementation, and evaluation procedures.

Maintains complete documentation as required and completes in a timely manner according to clinical standards department policy and regulatory requirements.

Communicates medication orders effectively via written, verbal, or electronic submission to pharmacies or clinic staff. Monitors the status of client prescriptions. Responds or refills prescriptions as appropriate and assists with insurance authorizations as needed.

Reviews medication information with clients to ensure understanding of benefits and risks. Serves as a resource to others on mental health information.

Assumes responsibility for the psychiatric care and treatment of all clients under his/her care.
Consults with peers or refers to the psychiatrist(s) or physician(s) any client with mental health problems requiring further consultation.
Works collaboratively with the Clinical Director or Behavioral Health Manager in the development of objectives, policies, procedures, and the collection or evaluation of data pertaining to services.
Maintains the confidential nature of client and business information according to department guidelines and administrative code.
Ability to work with a flexible schedule as workload fluctuates.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required
Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Nursing or Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner Program.
Certification by the American Nurses’ Credentialling Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Additional training and certification to provide psychiatric APNP services, having passed necessary state boards with credentialing to provide psychiatric services.
Licensed with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)

Licenses and Certifications:
Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse licensure and additional credentials and training, having passed necessary state boards to provide psychiatric services in a Wisconsin Outpatient Clinic.

Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of multi-disciplinary mental health treatment methods.

Experience working with a broad range of psychiatric illnesses.

Knowledge of advanced nursing practice as a basis for assessments.

Ability to derivescientifically grounded conclusions and prescribe therapeutic approaches.

Knowledge of psychiatric treatment in assigned areas.

Knowledge of electronic medical records or ability to learn those skills.

Knowledge of principles of documentation.

Ability to evaluate, develop and implement plans in the care of clients.

Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team, courts and a variety of referral sources.

Ability to supervise and direct multi-disciplinary professional staff in the implementation of client care and treatment.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff and the public.

Knowledge of the needs of developmentally disabled, mentally ill, and AODA clients.

Skill in performing necessary client evaluation related to clients with acute and chronic mental health problems.

Ability to work collaboratively with the Clinical Director, Behavioral Health Manager, Medical Director, facility physicians and staff in providing mental health services to clients to ensure quality and continuity of care.

Ability to deal with stress associated with threatening or unpredictable client behavior.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to work the required hours of the position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

Intermittent standing, walking and sitting; occasional driving.

Using hand(s)/feet for repetitive single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling, and operating controls.

Occasional bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, and reaching.

Communicating orally in a clear manner.

Distinguishing sounds at various frequencies and volumes.

Distinguishing people or objects at varied distances under a variety of light conditions.

Must be free from communicable disease.
