POSITION SUMMARY:

The full-time Accounting Specialist position is a member of the Financial Services Team in the Marathon County Social Services Department. As a member of the Financial Services Team, the Accounting Specialist composes and administers requests for proposals and contracts, completes various mid-level financial tasks for various Social Services programs including but not limited to maintaining account and bank reconciliations, preparing journal entries, reviewing and reconciling monthly county credit card activity, reviewing and approval of accounts payable, including troubleshooting; reviewing and approval of foster care rates, including troubleshooting, and other related financial support services. This position requires a dependable, flexible, well-organized, detail-oriented individual with excellent oral and written communication skills, solid interpersonal skills, customer service-focused, team-oriented, and strong computer skills.

This is a full-time position, at 40 hours per week, working from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a half hour unpaid lunch, Monday through Friday.

This opportunity may offer a future hybrid work-from-home (WFH)/remote option upon successful completion of training and meeting the WFH space requirements for confidentiality purposes based on approval.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate degree in accounting or two-year technical certificate, two (2) years of accounting experience, and two (2) years of intermediate Excel experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Composes and administers Requests for Proposals and contracts in accordance with county procurement policy.

Maintains account and bank reconciliations

Prepares journal entries.

Compiles and analyzes data for monthly, quarterly, annual, & ad hoc reports.

Reviews and approves accounts payable and assists with troubleshooting issues.

Reviews and approves foster care rates and assists with troubleshooting issues.

Maintains financial records in State systems

Reviews and reconciles monthly credit card activity

Other assigned responsibilities may include entering data for accounts payable, accounts receivable, responding to inquiries about financial information and maintaining files and documents

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Ability to perform mid-level data analysis to audit, deduce, assess, and conclude.

Financial management principles, practices and procedures and financial analysis techniques.

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) Principles

Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately. Aptitude for numerical manipulation and thinking in terms of numbers and numerical relationships.

Ability to find errors by backtracking logically through accounting procedures.

Knowledge of pertinent codes, laws, and regulations and County policies as they relate to duties performed.

Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.

Ability to prioritize duties based on emergent situations and be responsive to the greatest need.

Ability to work in a team-oriented work environment.

Ability to take initiative and anticipate potential financial issues to create proactive solutions

Detail oriented individual with excellent oral and written communication skills, customer service focused.

COMPENSATION:

Starting $24.65/hour + Marathon County benefits
