Date: 09/21/2009

As a tireless advocate for county nursing homes in Wisconsin, Winnebago County Nursing Home Administrator Margie Rankin has been named as this year’s recipient of the Wisconsin Counties Association’s (WCA) “Friend in County Government” award.

This is the highest honor given by the Association to an individual within county government who has performed outstanding service not only in their own county, but also for counties statewide and the Association. Margie Rankin was honored September 15, 2009 at the WCA Annual Conference in La Crosse County, where close to 1,000 county officials from around the state were in attendance.

“Margie Rankin is a strong promoter of the role of county nursing homes in the long-term care system and has worked diligently to highlight the role of county nursing homes and the populations they serve,” said WCA Executive Director Mark D. O’Connell.  “She has been relentless is pursuing funding for county nursing homes and we are proud to present her with this award. Her work has resulted in many elderly Wisconsin residents having the care and compassion needed in later years.”

Margie Rankin is currently the President of the Wisconsin Association of County Homes (WACH) and the administrator of Park View Health Center in Winnebago County.

“County nursing homes play a critical role in the care of some of our state’s most vulnerable citizens and in her role as president of WACH, Margie has worked with her peers from around the state to ensure that this vital group of Wisconsin’s citizens is protected.  We are proud of the work she does and fortunate that she has given so much of herself to county government and the residents of Wisconsin,” added O'Connell.
